I can't believe I forgot to post about this energy saving smart outlet. Basically, its a power strip that completely turns off power on devices when not in use. I like it not just because it saves me energy, I don't have to keep remembering to unplug when we go away for long periods of time. The outlet has a slot for devices that needs to be on all the time (ex. DVR, Wifi), the other slots are for devices that only gets turned on once you turn on the Master device. So for instance, its only when I turn on my tv before my DVD player, game console would turn on. And once I turn the tv off, it turns off power on the DVD, game console etc.. This costs $30 at Amazon.

This is called a Conserve Smart AV which powers devices in increments of 30 min, 3 hrs or 6 hrs. This is great when charging your cellphone, you can set it to charge for 3 hrs and it will turn off after 3 hours since you don't want to overcharge your device. For smaller appliances like curling iron you can set it for 30 min so you don't have to worry and wonder "did I turn off my flat iron?". 6 hrs for power tools, game devices etc.. This socket is $10 at Amazon. For your peace of mind I think its worth it.
